❄️ Frozen in Time: Hiker’s Body Found After 28 Years in Pakistan Glacier

Kohistan, Pakistan — August 7, 2025
In a haunting yet remarkable discovery, villagers in Pakistan's Kohistan district have uncovered the mummified body of a hiker who vanished nearly 28 years ago during a snowstorm on the treacherous slopes of the Karakoram range.

The hiker, whose name is believed to be Muhammad Karim, had embarked on a mountaineering expedition in 1997. Due to a sudden change in weather and heavy snowfall, Karim reportedly lost contact with his team and was presumed dead. Despite multiple search efforts, his body was never found—until now.

Perfect Preservation in Ice

What makes the discovery particularly astonishing is the state of preservation. Karim’s body was found in near-perfect condition, entombed within glacial ice that shielded it from decomposition. His clothes, boots, and even some personal belongings such as a compass and diary were recovered intact.

Experts say such preservation is rare but possible due to the extreme cold and low oxygen environment inside the glacier. Local authorities have handed over the remains to the family for proper burial after DNA verification.

Emotional Closure for the Family

“This is a moment of heartbreak but also healing,” said Karim’s younger brother. “We waited all these years, thinking he might be alive somewhere. Now at least we have him home.”

Mountaineering communities across the region paid tribute to Karim online, hailing his adventurous spirit and the mystery that surrounded his disappearance for decades.

A Cautionary Tale

The discovery has also renewed focus on the dangers of mountain climbing, especially in regions prone to sudden weather changes. The Karakoram and nearby Himalayas remain some of the most unpredictable and challenging terrains in the world, with several mountaineers still missing over the years.
